Edgerly Road Water Line Installation

R P Construction completed a major water distribution system expansion along Edgerly Road for Waterworks District No. 7 in Calcasieu Parish. The project included installation of new HDPE and PVC water mains, service connections, fire hydrants, and extensive horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations required to install the pipeline beneath roadways and existing infrastructure. The work involved installation of approximately 30,000 linear feet of 8-inch HDPE water main, along with additional distribution piping, service lines, valves, hydrants, and system appurtenances necessary to extend the municipal water system.

Project Overview

R P Construction performed the Edgerly Road Water Line Project for Waterworks District No. 7 in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. The project was designed to extend potable water service and improve distribution system reliability for residents in the Edgerly Road area. The project involved installation of a new municipal water distribution pipeline consisting primarily of 8-inch AWWA C906 SDR-11 HDPE water main, installed using a combination of open-cut trenching and horizontal directional drilling. In total, approximately 30,000 linear feet of HDPE water main were installed as part of the project. Directional drilling operations were a major component of the construction effort. Approximately 30,000 linear feet of HDD installation were performed to safely install pipeline beneath roadways, utilities, and environmentally sensitive areas without surface disruption. Additional pipeline installation included PVC water mains ranging from 4-inch to 8-inch diameter, along with service lines installed using AWWA C901 HDPE piping. The project also included installation of water service assemblies, transfer of existing service connections, and integration with the existing water distribution system. System infrastructure installed during the project included gate valves, tapping sleeves, fire hydrants, ductile iron fittings, thrust blocks, and utility markers. The project required multiple connections to the existing system and abandonment or modification of existing infrastructure where necessary. Construction activities also included clearing and grubbing, installation of traffic control measures, turf reconstruction, and restoration of drainage infrastructure including replacement of aggregate surfaces and lined drainage ditches. Upon completion, the project delivered a reliable new water distribution corridor designed to support long-term water service expansion and improved system reliability for the Edgerly Road service area.

Key Highlights

  • Installed approximately 30,000 linear feet of 8-inch HDPE municipal water main.
  • Performed extensive horizontal directional drilling operations to install pipeline beneath roadways and utilities.
  • Installed 16 fire hydrants, multiple valves, service connections, and system appurtenances for full distribution system integration.

Delivery Challenges

  • Coordinating installation of long-distance pipeline infrastructure requiring extensive directional drilling operations and utility crossings.
  • Integrating new infrastructure with the existing water system while maintaining continuous service to existing customers.
